The National Headache Foundation (NHF) is the oldest and largest organization dedicated to enhancing the healthcare of individuals with headache. To better serve headache and migraine patients around the country and work towards our vision of “A World Without Headache,” NHF works closely with headache care professionals.
Certificate of Added Qualification in Headache Medicine (CAQ)
NHF is always striving to better set the standards for headache practice with programs such as the Certificate of Added Qualification in Headache Medicine (CAQ). The requirements to obtain a subspecialty in headache medicine have become more restrictive and these restrictions prevented many healthcare providers from receiving acknowledgement for their work, experience, and abilities in headache medicine.
The reinstatement of CAQ in 2015 allows more qualified headache care professionals, including physicians (M.D. and D.O.), physician assistants, advance practice nurses, dentists, and psychologists, to be recognized for their level of expertise in headache medicine.
NHF also wants to assist those with headache in locating clinicians who could provide optimal headache-related health care.
Education for Your Patients
NHF is a great resource for practicing headache care professionals. Not only does www.headaches.org include tools (Headache Sufferer’s Diet and Headache Diary) that can be shared with headache and migraine patients, but brochures can always be sent to one’s office to be distributed to patients.
Professionals can also receive multiple copies of HeadWise, NHF’s quarterly magazine, to their office when they become a member of the National Headache Foundation.
NHF works closely with professionals interested in research and has been supporting clinical and basic science research in headache and its causes for over 25 years. These grants have served as springboards to obtaining over $7 million in federal funding of headache-related research. NHF recommends that those interested in grants frequently check this page for news and information.
