SEYMOUR DIAMOND, M.D.

Seymour Diamond, MD, is Executive Chairman of the National Headache Foundation which he co-founded in 1970 with Drs. Arnold Friedman and Donald Dalessio.  He is also Director and Founder of the Diamond Headache Clinic and Director of the Diamond Inpatient Headache Unit at Sainted Joseph Hospital, Chicago, Illinois. The Diamond Headache Clinic has been existence over 35 years, and is the oldest and largest private facility dedicated to the diagnosis and management of headache. He is also Adjunct Professor, Department of Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology, as well as Clinical Professor, Department of Family Medicine of The Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, North Chicago, Illinois. Doctor Diamond received his medical degree from the Chicago Medical School, from which he received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1977. In November, 2002, he received the President’s Award from The Chicago Medical School Alumni Association, of which he serves on the Board of Governors.

 

Doctor Diamond has served as editor for 16 publications. Currently, he serves as Editor-in-Chief of the journal, Headache and Pain – Diagnostic Challenges, Current Therapy. In addition, he has published almost 450 articles in the professional literature. Doctor Diamond has authored or co-authored over 63 books, including Diagnosing and Managing Migraine, 5th edition (2007); Headache Through the Ages (with Mary A. Franklin, 2005); Conquering Your Migraine (with Mary A. Franklin; 2001); and, Headache and Your Child (with Amy Diamond; 2001). With Donald J. Dalessio, he has co-edited five editions of The Practicing Physician's Approach to Headache.

 

He has lectured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. In addition to holding more than 30 professional association offices in the past, Doctor Diamond currently serves as the Executive Chairperson of the National Headache Foundation which he co-founded in 1970. Doctor Diamond received the National Migraine Foundation Lectureship Award in 1982, and in 1988, he was honored as the first recipient of the Migraine Trust Lectureship in London. In 1999, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Headache Society (formerly the American Association for the Study of Headache [AASH]). Doctor Diamond served as Executive Director of AASH from 1975 through 1986. From 1980 through 1995, he served as Executive Officer of the World Federation of Neurology Research Group on Migraine and Headache.

Doctor Diamond has been married almost 60 years to Elaine J. Diamond, and they are the proud parents of Judi Diamond-Falk (an architect), Merle L. Diamond, M.D. (an associate director of the Diamond Headache Clinic), and Amy Diamond (an editor with Primedia). They also are proud of their six grandchildren: Brian and Emily Diamond-Falk, and Max, Michael, Jacob, and Katelyn Barack.
